Part one of The Forests of Silence, told through the eyes of the young king Endon and his companion Jarred, tells how the magic gems of Deltora are lost through treachery and betrayal.
Part two is told through the eyes of Lief, Jarred’s son, and begins 16 years later. This is where the quest really begins. Lief finds out he has to undertake a quest to find the lost gems of the belt of Deltora.
If you like facts more than fiction you might not like it when the spiritual world comes in, but that’s only a small part of the story. Eight- to 15-year-olds (if they like fantasy) will probably love this book, and the series gets even better as you read it.

The Fairy Realm Series’ (there are three series’) I’ve been enjoying reading some of these with my five-year-old daughter, although I’ve found some more enthralling than others (she’s liked them all though).
